Tomorrow, I have a meeting with a company that is quite typical. The first page of their Web site is all about their company and has far too much verbiage for a home page. Their sales are lagging and it is not simply due to the economy or time of the year. You must tell a visitor, within the first 3-5 seconds of landing on your Web site, what is in it for them. If you do not, they will be off to your competitor's Web site. You have to be one step ahead of your competitors at all times. If your site has not been significantly changed within the last two years, start there. If you have not made any changes or updates to the site within the last 30 days, it is sinking in the search engines. Also, remember that it is not the job of a Web site developer to create your content or know how to leverage it for your company's marketing direction. This is a job for you and someone who specializes in this form of marketing and content development. Starting with the content and then getting the site developed will save you money and improve your results significantly and translate dollars to your bottom line.
